Kevin McCallister and his family are planning to go to Miami, Florida during the holiday season this time around. Kevin becomes separated from his family and ends up in New York City. Kevin uses his father's credit card and rents a suite.

On the way out, Kevin soon realizes that he just met the toy store owner, Mr Duncan. When Kevin encounters Marv and Harry outside the toy store, the camera zooms in on Kevin's bag with the name "K McCallister" embroidered on it. However, it should have read "P McCallister" because this is his father Peter's bag; Kevin was holding it since the family arrived at the airport and it contains all of Peter's money and his ID. Finally, Kevin heads back out into the night, and comes across a children's hospital. Remembering what Harry and Marv plan to do, Kevin hatches a plan to stop them before they can steal the money. Kevin returns to the house owned by his Uncle and Aunt, and much like his own house the year before, booby-traps it.

In a long shot of the house the morning the family leaves, there is no bronze statue near the front doorsteps. But when the vans arrive, the second one hits the bronze statue near the doorsteps, which was not there in the previous shot. Kevin rigs the brownstone with traps and explosions.

When the tool chest pushes the door Marv and Harry have their ears pressed against, the long shot clearly reveals that they are standing on a skateboard as they are pushed backwards. When Marv walks up the stairs to the front door, he leaves the bag of money on the sidewalk, and later, when he and Harry chase Kevin to Central Park, the bag is still there. It seems highly unlikely that a bag of money left on a sidewalk in New York City would remain untouched for any considerable length of time. In the original Kevin - Allein zu Haus, Kevin's cousin Heather counts heads and there are 15 people between the two families. In "Home Alone 2" there are only 14 boarding passes between the two families. However, in the first movie, the McCallisters travel to Paris to drop Heather off with her parents.

However, in this scene, Kevin is no longer visible, implying that the hole is further away. It is also unexplained how Kevin is able to move the immense pipe. Finally, when Kevin first throws the pipe, the angle that it swings it implies a short rope, meaning that the pipe would have started moving backwards. When Kevin soaks the rope in kerosene, he later lights it on fire to deter Harry and Marv. Given the evaporative nature of kerosene, the volatility would be so low, the rope would barely light, if at all. It would had taken a lot longer than that.

Harry Falls With Style

When Kevin is trying to lure Harry and Marv into the house, he is seen crawling up the garbage chute. The chute was placed in a vertical position; therefore it would have been impossible for Kevin to crawl up it. The flight attendant on Kevin's flight as well as the announcer at O'Hare Airport announce Kevin's flight as simply going to "New York" with no specifics of which airport it is. Since New York has two airports, LaGuardia and JFK , a professional airline employee would make sure to announce the correct airport, especially in a multi-airport metro area like New York.

When Kevin requested to make a donation to the toy store, the money envelope was back in his hand. In-between, however, there is a close-up of Mr. Duncan handling the money to put in the cash register.

The bag of stolen money changes moves between shots when Marv is getting hit by the bricks. At the top of the stairs, the tool chest wheels are all facing sideways. Before it falls, all the wheels including the fixed wheels are facing forward.

The exterior of the house was filmed on what's called Brownstone Street at Universal Studios. Fans of Home Alone can visit Brownstone Street in the Universal Lots, and it still looks the same. However, Times Square has been built on, modernized, and received a significant revamp when the Pedestrian Plaza was built in the early 2010s. It now looks significantly different, full of brighter lights, way more traffic, and a completely redesigned area. In the gangster film "Angels with Even Filthier Souls" which Kevin watches, when Johnny fires at Carlotta the first row of gunshots last much longer when he later plays it to trick the hotel staff. Immediately following the scene with the pigeon lady in the concert hall attic, Kevin walks toward the railing and a boom mic is visible as a reflection in the window to the left of the screen.

A Classic Door Trap

When Marv pulls the front door knob and the knob comes loose with several feet of string attached to it. He pulls it tightly with his back against the door and we hear the first staple shot. It's impossible for Marv to do a 180-degree turn and not hear the second shot. When Marv slides into the shelves holding the paint cans, he raises both arms and completely covers his face to protect himself from the failing paint cans. When he crawls out from under the shelves though, his face is completely covered in paint as if his arms were not covering his face.
